ARLINGTON (WBAP/KLIF News) – The Tarrant Area Food Bank is in need of volunteers to help staff it’s Mega Mobile Markets that have expanded to Six Flags Over Texas in Arlington.
Families can pick up free nutritious meals there every Wednesday until the end of the year.
The TAFB’s Michael Polydoroff said the number of people the food bank serves hit a peak at the height of the pandemic started to drop off…only to turn around again.
“Now, we’re seeing the level go back up. We’re seeing as much as 1,500 to 2,000 families on average when we do our Mega Mobile Market events,” he said.
Anyone eight and up is eligible. COVID-19 vaccinations are required at the indoor facilities. However, the vaccine is not required at the food bank’s outdoor events, like the Wednesday night event at Herman Clark Stadium, but masks are required.
Unfortunately, hunger is something that many North Texans suffer through in silence and the ongoing pandemic has only exacerbated that.
Polydoroff said volunteering with the food bank can give one an opportunity to touch the lives of someone in your community through a few hours of donated time.
“We need people that can be outside…that can help put boxes in cars…that can put a smile on someone’s face as they drive off. There’s a lot of shame that people have when they come up and they shouldn’t. We want to help anybody and everybody. It’s a very no questions asked system. We try to put dignity in it and get you in and out from your car as quick as possible. You’re going to make a difference immediately,” he said.
