Audit of Dallas’ IT Department Reveals “poor data management & oversight’

Dallas (WBAP/KLIF) – An audit of the City of Dallas’ IT Department revealed millions of Dallas police files have been lost due to poor data management and lack of oversight; that’s according to results released on Thursday.

The shortfalls led to a lone former IT employee deleting over 8 million mostly police department files.

The impact of the missing data related to investigations and prosecutions is still not known, according to the Dallas Morning News

The 121-page report reveals that the Dallas DA’s Office has made the recovery of files in 1,000 criminal cases a top priority. Meantime, about 140, 000 files that were thought to be lost forever, have been recovered.
