(WBAP/KLIF) — With 11 days left in the special legislative session, Texas Republicans have crafted another redistricting map. The map came out, Thursday, and proposes to strengthen republican districts.

Democrats and Latino advocacy groups protested the proposals which they say have fewer districts with a majority of minority voters. Republican leadership said race wasn’t taken into account in the proposed maps and they comply with the federal voting rights act.
John Turner’s North Dallas district would turn more Hispanic, strengthening Democratic control. The map also adjusts Denton County’s southern district held by Democrat Michelle Beckley, which would seemingly favor a GOP candidate. In North Texas, Democrats look to gain the post currently held by Republican Jeff Cason as the district would contain mostly minority voters.
