DALLAS (WBAP/KLIF) – A Dallas Police Officer is on administrative leave after being seen on video shooting in the direction of an unarmed man.

According to the Dallas Police Department, On September 2, 2021, at approximately 8:33 p.m., Dallas Police Officers responded to an armed encounter call the night of September 2 at 9727 Rustown Drive. The 911 caller reported about 5 to 7 men drinking, smoking, and shooting a gun in the air. A second caller to 911 described one of the suspects as being a Hispanic male, 6’0” feet tall, with a beard and wearing an orange shirt.  The caller also stated the male pointed a gun at him and was standing with other individuals located between the gas station and laundry mat.

Police said that when the officers arrived, they observed multiple men matching the description on the 911 call sheet. Officers also observed a person wearing an orange shirt seated on the sidewalk on the side of the laundry mat. One of the officers, Police Officer Branson Grisham drew his service weapon and began to approach the individual. Body cam video shows Officer Grisham give the man loud verbal commands to come towards him, but the 59-year-old walked away from the Officer down an alley. Grisham pursued on foot and when he rounded a corner, he said that he observed the individual with his back turned manipulating something in his front waistband. Officer Grisham, with his gun still drawn, gave loud verbal commands for the individual to show him his hands. Officer Grisham then fired one round, missing the individual.  There was no weapon found on the individual or during the incident.

“I have some concerns about the tactics which led to the shooting,” said Dallas Police Chief Eddie Garcia. “As I’ve said many times, when we’re right we’re right and when we stumble we need to hold ourselves accountable.”

The man involved in the incident was interviewed by detectives and released without any charges. The Officer could face criminal charges.
