Court Rules Against Fort Worth ISD’s Mask Mandate

(WBAP/KLIF) — A court strikes down the mask mandate of a North Texas school district.  The 141st District Court in Tarrant County issued a temporary injunction against Fort Worth ISD for issuing a mask mandate in defiance of Governor Greg Abbott’s executive order.

The court ruled, Friday, that the district cannot require students and faculty to wear masks because the school board lacks authority to violate the governor’s ban on face mask mandates.  District officials issued a statement saying they are monitoring the legal proceedings in this matter and relying on the advice of their attorneys.

The court ruled that the Fort Worth ISD’s face-covering rule was “made without authority and is in contrary to and in violation” of Governor Abbott’s ban on face mask mandates.  According to WFAA, the school board unanimously voted in August to require masks for all students and staff at district schools.
