FORT WORTH (WBAP/KLIF) – The Fort Worth Fire Department continues to provide assistance in the southern part of Louisiana in the aftermath of Ida, which made landfall on Sunday as a category 4 hurricane.

Fort Worth firefighters, and others from across North Texas, are part of a statewide task force providing recovery help to Louisiana.

“Five from our strike team are from Fort Worth and surrounding areas,” said Fort Worth Fire Lieutenant Brant Frazier. “Like Parker County, Waxahachie, and Denton County engine from Sanger.”

Crews are set up in Lafourche Parish to assist with search and rescue, evacuations, infrastructure assessment and providing emergency response coverage.

“This is not a storm where we will be able to recover in a week or two,” said Lt. Frazier. “This is going to take months or years to recover.”

Frazier said that as of Thursday afternoon, the entire parish was still without power and water, making recovery challenging.
