Fort Worth (WBAP/KLIF) – Cook Children’s Hospital is seeing a growing number of severe covid-19 cases among children, caused by the hghly contagious Delta variant.
Dr. Kara Starnes. medical director for Cook’s urgent care services says higher demand for medical services is hampered by the growing shortage of health workers. Dr. Starnes was among a number of fellow Cook Children’s doctors who took part in a virtual news conference on Wednesday:
“We’re losing a lot of staff due to burnout. People are tired, they’re exhausted. They’re being asked to work overtime, come in extra to help out when there is call in. They’re just really, really tired and we are struggling to manage with the staff that we have.”
Cook Children’s had to close its Hurst urgent care over the weekend.
Doctors implored eligible Texans to get vaccinated and wear a mask to help stop the spread of COVID-19.
