DALLAS (WBAP/KLIF) – Volunteers from North Texas are headed east to respond to the impacts of hurricane Ida, which made landfall in Southeastern Louisiana Sunday afternoon.

Louisiana Governor John Bel Edwards called Hurricane Ida historic.

“This is one of the strongest storms to make landfall here in modern times,” the Governor said.

John Hall, with the DFW based non profit Texas Baptist Men, said the response could very well be the same way.

“This is a much larger scale than many of the things we’ve responded to,” said Hall. This is a Hurricane Harvey type situation.”

Hall said TBM handed out close to 2 million meals after Harvey. He prays that won’t be needed this time, but insists the group is prepared if it is. TBM plans to deploy more teams to help cut down trees, serve meals, and clean flooded homes.
