CLAY COUNTY (WBAP/KLIF News) – The search continues for the suspect accused of shooting a Clay County Sheriff’s deputy.
A statewide Blue Alert was issued Monday night, after a man opened fire on the deputy during a traffic stop near the Jolly Truck Stop just southeast of Wichita Falls.
Clay County Sheriff Jeffrey Lyde said Deputy Chip Wood was shot in the chest but was wearing a bullet proof vest during the attack. He’s expected to be alright.
Lyde said Wood managed to return fire but its not clear if he hit the suspect, who is described as a thin, white man who was wearing a blue hat.
In a Facebook post early Tuesday morning, the Wichita Falls Police Department said they found the suspect’s car, a white Cadillac sedan near United Regional in the downtown area.
Wichita Falls Crime Stoppers is offering a $5,500 reward for information leading to an arrest.
Anyone with information is asked to call 940-322-9888.
Blue Alerts were created to help authorities reach the public amid a search for criminals when a member of law enforcement is hurt or killed on duty.
