Tarrant County Judge will Follow Governor’s Order, Not Issue Mask Mandate

FORT WORTH (WBAP/KLIF)- Tarrant County Judge Glen Whitley said the county is following Governor Greg Abbott’s order and will not issue a mask mandate.

This comes after Dallas County Judge Clay Jenkins issued a mask mandate while the Governor’s order says businesses cannot require them.

Whitley says Governor Abbott has the power to make these decisions and it’s out of their control.

“I have talked with attorneys, mayors, schools and hospital CEOs and we all feel that the governor has that authority and I’m not going to to go against the law,” said Whitley.

Whitley says he is a strong advocate for local control and wish Gov. Abbott would allow county judges to make local decisions but the governor has the authority and that all there is to it.
“We are following his orders which are, we can do nothing,” he said. “We will keep going the way we’re going.”
Whitley encourages everyone to get vaccinated and to where a mask if you choose to do so.
