DALLAS (WBAP/KLIF) – Dallas County Judge Clay Jenkins, on Wednesday, issued an emergency order related to an increasing number of COVID-19 cases and hospitalizations in North Texas.
The emergency order requires masking indoors, regardless of vaccination status, for schools K-12, all Dallas County buildings, and businesses open to the public.
Masks are strongly encouraged among the general public.
“It is strongly urged that people 2 years or older wear a face mask in a public indoor setting,” said Jenkins. “No civil or criminal penalty will be imposed on individuals.”
The order follows a temporary restraining order from a Dallas County District Judge that blocked Governor Abbott’s ban on mask requirements by localities.
Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton said he is pursuing legal action against localities defying the Governor’s order. He’s confident the cases will eventually make their way to the Texas Supreme Court.
The Dallas County order takes effect at 11:59 p.m. on Wednesday.
