Dallas ISD Requires Masks in Defiance of an Order from Governor Abbott

DALLAS (WBAP/KLIF) – The Dallas Independent School District plans to violate Governor Abbott’s order that stops schools from requiring masks.

According to the DFW Hospital Council, the number of COVID-19 cases and hospitalizations, especially among children, continues to rise in North Texas.  Because of that, Dallas ISD Superintendent Michael Hinojosa announced on Monday that he is taking action.

“I’m issuing a temporary order that everyone on campus will be wearing a mask,” said Hinojosa. “I am the Chief Executive Officer of the school district, and I am responsible for the day to day operations. So I think I have the authority, and so do our attorneys, to make that decision.”

According to Hinojosa, a group of DISD parents filed a lawsuit against the state related to the Governor’s order over the weekend.
