COVID Funds Could Build Interstate Across Central Texas

(WBAP/KLIF) — Senators Ted Cruz and John Cornyn are working to amend the infrastructure bill to construct a new highway across Texas.  The move would expand Interstate 14, which runs from Fort Hood to Belton, to run east across central Texas, Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama, and Georgia.

Interstate 14 would also extend over 300 miles west to connect Odessa.  The bipartisan measure proposed would expand I-14 from Odessa, Texas, to Augusta, Georgia.  The nearly 1,300 mile stretch has bipartisan support and is now headed to the House.  Senator Cornyn is pushing the measure which would allow states and local governments to use 30% of their unspent COVID-19 relief funds on infrastructure.

Senator Cruz says the new interstate would link together important military bases and provide economic growth and jobs.  According to the Fort Worth Star Telegram, the measure now goes to the U.S. House of Representatives.
