AUSTIN – Texas Governor Greg Abbott announced on Thursday that he will convene a second special legislative session at 12 p.m. on August 7. The current special session ends August 6.
The move comes after House Democrats have broken quorum for most of the special session in an effort to kill a Republican led voting bill. The Governor has promised for weeks to call repeated special sessions until the election integrity bill is taken up. He made good on that promise Thursday.
“The Texas Legislature achieved a great deal during the 87th Legislative Session, and they have a responsibility to finish the work that was started,” said Governor Abbott. “I will continue to call special session after special session to reform our broken bail system, uphold election integrity, and pass other important items that Texans demand and deserve. Passing these Special Session agenda items will chart a course towards a stronger and brighter future for the Lone Star State.”
The proclamation identifies 17 agenda items for the second Special Session, including election integrity, Federal COVID relief money, and bail reform. It’s not clear if or when Democrats will return to the Capitol.
According to Governor Abbott, agenda items for the second special session will include:
BAIL REFORM
