It happened at the location at 456 North Zang Boulevard near Davis Street around 11 p.m.
Investigators said the clerk called 911 and told dispatchers he shot at two people.
Our media partner WFAA TV reports the clerk has been identified as 23-year-old Delon Johnson.
When officers arrived on scene, Johnson said two men had stolen beer and walked out. Police said he told them he followed them into the parking lot and shot at their vehicle.
Officers eventually found the car with one person suffering a gunshot wound still inside. The second man had taken off.
The victim, who has not been identified, was rushed to the hospital where he later died.
