Rural NTX Struggling to Get COVID Vaccination Rates Up; Hospitalizations Surge

(WFAA)

Cleburne, TX (WBAP/KLIF) – The push continues to vaccinate eligible Texans as the Covid delta variant is increasingly impacting people who have not been vaccinated.

Rural counties in north texas are having a rough go of it. Dr. Rahulkumar Singh [rah-ul-ku-mar sing], Chief Medical Officer at Texas Health Harris Methodist Cleburne Hospital says that they’ve struggling to get their vaccination rates up.

“We have seen an uptick at the number of COVID, patients we have seen in the hospital,” Singh told WFAA.

Singh added that over 90% of their patients are unvaccinated.

Cleburne is in Johnson County which has one of the lowest vaccination rates in North Texas with just 39%.

In other small, rural counties like Erath, Palo Pinto and Wise, vaccination rates are between 30% to 34%.

Singh blames “misinformation and social media” for resistance among those who refuse to get the shot.
