Delta Variant Impact on Weddings, Special Events

AZLE (WBAP/KLIF)- With ongoing concerns over the Delta Variant, the event industry may need to make some changes to accommodate safety.

Sharon Mazanec is the owner of  an Azle-based wedding services company “Bumble Bee Occasions“. She said there has been concerns over how this will affect future events, but right now everything is still on track.

“There might be some things we have to go back to like wearing masks but beyond questions and concerns, we are not seeing restaurants or venues follow anything other than what we are allowed to do which is full capacity,” said Mazanec.

Mazanec said it’s still important to have a backup plan and look over contracts in case you or your vendors become sick.

“Really pay attention to contracts and what you are getting into. Weddings and special events are expensive, so you want to make sure that if there is a need to postpone, your contract will allow that,” she said.

Mazanec said the industry was hit hard with cancellations and postponements in the beginning of the pandemic. She said those postponed events are now underway and future events are looking good, but hopes this new surge won’t set them back further.

“We have lived through a very difficult time with most of our businesses being shut down for 81+ days and a slow recovery to get back to full stream. But this doesn’t mean we aren’t prepared for this to happen again. We have learned through this to have a great backup plan that supports our individual vendors and our clients,” she said.

With so many events forced to reschedule, we are seeing a wedding boom right now. With that being said, Mazanec encourages everyone to secure vendors sooner than later.

“With florals, for instance, we actually send those requests to our buyers 6-8 months in advance so growers know how to plant their fields and crops and what people are demanding moving forward, same thing with food,” said Mazanec.”The more information we can provide to our industry services, the better prepared we are and the better our sourcing will be,” she said.

Mazanec ensures that if you’re working with professionals in the industry, they will have backup plans in place.
