TOKYO (WBAP/KLIF)- Reigning Olympic Gymnastics Champion Simone Biles is out of the U.S. team finals.
An official statement from USA Gymnastics said “Simone has withdrawn from the team final competition due to a medical issue. she will be assessed daily to determine medical clearance for future competitions.”
In a clip from the broadcast, you can overhear Biles talking to her coach.
“I can’t get up there,” she said.
Sources say she is suffering from a mental issue and not an injury. This comes after Simone posted Monday after prelims about having the weight of the world on her shoulders.
“It wasn’t an easy day or my best but I got through it. I truly do feel like I have the weight of the world on my shoulders at times. I know I brush it off and make it seem like pressure doesn’t affect me but damn sometimes it’s hard hahaha! The Olympics is no joke! BUT I’m happy my family was able to be with me virtually🤍 they mean the world to me!”
Without Biles, the U.S. took silver in the women’s team event behind Russia.
Biles will be monitored daily to see if she can compete in all around and other individual events.
The women’s Gymnastics all around final will be on July 29th and individual events begin August 2nd
