Hunt County, TX (WBAP/KLIF) – The Hunt County Medical Community has made an urgent appeal regarding COVID vaccinations.

In a open letter to residents, printed in the Herald Banner on July 15, doctors in the Hunt Memorial Hospital District implored them to get vaccinated as soon as possible, as the fast-spreading delta variant has triggered a rapid increase in new infections.

As of July 14, Hunt Regional Medical Center had a nearly 15% covid hospitalization rate, none of which were vaccinated. The letter states, “At this point, nearly every covid death, especially among adults, is entirely preventable.

Hunt county’s vaccination rate for eligible residents over the age of 12 is about 33.4%

Meantime, Greenville Fire-Rescue on Tuesday joined the medical community in urging residents to get vaccinated, as the county’s surge in new infections and hospitalizations continues.

In a statement, the department said, “Hunt county is currently sitting number #2 in the 19-county region with covid inpatients.” The statement also warned that the majority of severe cases are being seen in unvaccinated adults.
