Dallas Mavericks Officially Introduce New Head Coach, General Manager

DALLAS (WBAP/KLIF) – The Dallas Mavericks organization officially introduced its new Head Coach and General Manager at the American Airlines Center on Thursday.

Owner Mark Cuban said the hire of Nico Harrison as General Manager is expected to bring more structure to the organization.

“We didn’t have a lot of structure before,” said Cuban. “One of the skill sets that Nico brings is putting together an organization that has defined roles.”

Harrison replaces long-time Mavs GM Donnie Nelson.

Jason Kidd said it was a dream come true to begin his third stint with the Mavericks.

“What an incredible journey,” Kidd said. “To be drafted, to win Rookie of the Year, to win a championship, and then to become the Head Coach.”

Kidd replaces Rick Carlisle as Head Coach. The Mavericks hiring of Kidd has brought some skepticism from fans because of his criminal history that includes domestic violence and a DWI. But Mavs CEO Cynt Marshall said she spoke with Kidd about his past before he was hired.

“We talked about some of the history and he walked me through his journey,” Marshall said. “At the end of that process I very much felt that we were doing that right thing.”

Kidd and Harrison said they’re focused on bringing another championship to Dallas.
