Washington (WBAP/KLIF) – Five months after the January 6 riot at the U.S. Capitol, the House and Senate have come to an agreement that will award the Congressional Gold Medal to the officers who defended the Capitol.

21 House Republicans refused to support the legislation, including Texas Reps Louie

Rep. Lance Gooden (R/TX) house.gov

Gohmert and Chip Roy.

Texas Rep. Lance Gooden was the only GOP member to vote no on the measure in March, and change his vote to yes on Tuesday.

Earlier this year, the Senate unanimously voted to give the Gold Medal exclusively to Capitol Police Officer Eugene Goodman, who went viral in his attempts to stave off an angry mob that was within steps of the Senate chamber.  Texas Senators Ted Cruz and John Cornyn went along with the measure.

At the end of the day, both chambers agreed to give four Gold Medals — one for the Capitol Police, one for the D.C. police, another for the Smithsonian Institution and another to be displayed inside the Capitol building along with a plaque that names all law enforcement agencies who helped repel the rioters that day.

Other House Republicans voting ‘no’ over objections to the word “insurrection” include:

Reps. Andy Biggs (Ariz.), Thomas Massie (Ky.), Andy Harris (Md.), Lance Gooden (Tex.), Matt Gaetz (Fla.), Marjorie Taylor Greene (Ga.), Louie Gohmert (Tex.), Michael Cloud (Tex.), Andrew S. Clyde (Ga.), Greg Steube (Fla.), Bob Good (Va.) and John Rose (Tenn.), Lauren Boebert (Colo.), Barry Moore (Ala.), Ralph Norman (S.C.), Matthew M. Rosendale (Mont.), Paul A. Gosar (Ariz.), Warren Davidson (Ohio), Scott Perry (Pa.), Jody Hice (Ga.) and Mary Miller (Ill.).

The final house vote was was 406-21.
