A State Moratorium on Shutting Off Utilities For Non-Payment is Set to End Friday

Austin (WBAP/KLIF) – Some Texas residents want an extension of a state moratorium on shutting off utilities for non-payment

  1. The moratorium is set to end on Friday. That’s when the Public Utility Commission of Texas is expected to make a decision on whether to extend it, according to the Dallas Morning News.

The moratorium was put in place in late February to ease the financial burden for millions of Texans who sustained damages from the winter-weather triggered power crisis.

At least two Southeast Texas residents – on behalf of their community – have told the commission that many people still have broken pipes. PUC Commissioner Will McAdams has previously recommended ending the moratorium, saying that extending it could create financial issues and more grid instability.
