GARLAND (WBAP/KLIF) – The Garland Police Department is praising the response of its Officers and neighboring agencies in pursuit that moved through a number of DFW cities.
According to Police, DEA agents requested Garland officer’s assistance in performing a traffic stop on a silver pickup truck that was entering the Garland city limits Thursday afternoon. When patrol officers attempted to stop the truck in the area of Jupiter Road and Walnut Street, the driver, 41-year-old Rodolfo Gutierrez-Tapia, did not stop and began leading them in a vehicle pursuit. Officers pursued Gutierrez through Garland, Rowlett, Dallas, Richardson, Plano, Allen, and into McKinney.
During the pursuit, Garland officers communicated with surrounding agencies and spike strips were used to disable the two left tires of the pickup.
“That’s one of the things we pride ourselves on in the metroplex,” said Garland Officer, Pedro Barineau. “We have very good working relationships with all surrounding agencies.”
Barineau said other departments assisted by attempting to deploy spike strips and closing intersections.
Gutierrez stopped in the 2900 block of Country Road 330 in McKinney where he was taken into custody. While being arrested Gutierrez stated he ingested narcotics. Out of an abundance of caution he was taken to a hospital to be evaluated.
According to GPD, Gutierrez will be charged with Evading Arrest in a Vehicle.
