Fort Worth ISD Makes Masks Optional for Fully-Vaccinated Staff and Students

FORT WORTH (WBAP/KLIF News) – Students and staff within Fort Worth ISD who are fully vaccinated against COVID-19 are allowed to make their own decisions about masks and social distancing from now on.

The school board approved the new protocols Tuesday night and the guidelines go into effect starting Wednesday, May 26th to June 3rd.

The rules apply to all Fort Worth ISD facilities and school buses.

Students under 12 are required to wear masks indoors but can make their own decision outside.

The new protocols follow Governor Greg Abbott’s decision to order face masks to be optional for Texans starting June 4th.

Abbott’s decision to ban school districts and local governments from issuing mask mandates came earlier this month despite the Center’s for Disease Control and Prevention’s recommendation that schools keep the same mask mandates and social distancing guidelines at least through the 2020-2021 school year.
