DALLAS (WBAP/KLIF)-The U.S. is expanding use of Pfizer’s COVID-19 vaccine to children as young as 12. The Food and Drug Administration now says the shot is safe and offers strong protection for younger teens based on testing of more than 2,000 U.S. volunteers. Shots could begin soon once a federal vaccine panel issues recommendations for using the vaccine in 12- to 15-year-olds. Stephen Love President of the DFW hospital council says vaccinating children of all ages will be critical to a return to normalcy. “I think this is great, the more people we can get vaccinated the closer we will get to herd immunity,” said Love.
Love said North Texas agencies have already begun rolling out registration for parents to sign up their children.
“Getting parental consent by registering now is so important. Tarrant County, Denton County, Dallas County, Collin County are working on this so once it’s ready for kids, it will be an easy process,” he said.
