Trinity Metro and DART Reach Agreement to Connect Passengers from Plano to Fort Worth with Access to DFW Airport

GRAPEVINE (WBAP/KLIF)- Trinity Metro has reached an agreement to allow Dallas Area Rapid transit to run its planned new silver line rail cars into the existing TexRail station at DFW airport.

Trinity Metro’s Jon-Erik Arjanen said DART is giving Trinity Metro $27.5 million dollars to access the line at Terminal B.

“It’s a new beginning,” said Arjanen. “The partnership will allow us the ability top provide transportation solutions for our communities,” he said.

Gordon Shattles with DART said the dart silver line will run 26 miles from DFW airport to Carrollton, Addison, north Dallas and Plano and by connecting to Trinity Metros TexRail will eventually connect passengers to Fort Worth’s medical district.

“It’s 10 stops a long the way and a total of 7 cities. With this agreement, you can take the DART Silver Line from Plano to DFW Airport then board TexRail all the way to downtown Fort Worth,” said Shattles.

This transportation service will cut diagonally across the metroplex, from southwest to northeast and it will be much faster than driving in your car because you will avoid street traffic.

“The ability to provide greater mobility options, there’s going to be better access to jobs, access to healthcare, educational opportunities and economic support for the growing region,” said Shattles.

Arjanen agrees with Shattles saying in Tarrant county, north Richland hills and Grapevine are pursuing mixed-use developments within a short walk of their TexRail stations and with DART, there’s plenty of mixed-used developments and job opportunities along the line in Addison, Carrollton and Plano.

“There’s some fantastic job centers over in North Dallas and the Plano area. This provides an opportunity for employers to reach out, identify and bring talent in from the West,” said Arjanen. “This is a huge step  for the communities as well as the businesses in North Texas,” he said.

Trinity Metro has operated the TexRail commuter trains since 2019. The DART silver line is under construction and is set to be completed in 2023.

This agreement signifies a new era of cooperation between Trinity Metro and Dart, while giving North Texans an easier way to connect to other areas of the metroplex.
