AUSTIN (WBAP/KLIF) – Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton could face a challenger with a familiar name in politics in next year’s election.
Texas Land Commissioner George P. Bush confirmed to WBAP/KLIF News on Monday that he is considering running for the position.
“I’m taking a serious look at it,” Bush said. “I’m focused on the Land Office activities during this legislative session, but I do think Texans deserve better.”
Bush said that opposing Paxton isn’t about ideologies, as he too touts conservative values. But, more about restoring integrity to the office.
“When it comes to securing the border, and establishing law and order in our state, we need a top law enforcement that official that’s above reproach,” Bush insisted.
Pointing out lingering securities fraud charges against Paxton, the grandson of former President George H.W. Bush, and nephew of former President George W. Bush, said he believes it’s time for a change in the office. He emphasized that he believes it’s important to remember that when you are electing an Attorney General, you are electing the managing partner of the state’s biggest law firm.
Bush is expected to announce his decision after the current legislative session.
