Dallas ISD Votes To Rename Schools Honoring Those With Confederate Ties

(WBAP/KLIF) — Three Dallas ISD schools will be renamed next school year.  Board members, Thursday, voted unanimously to rename three district schools named after men with ties to the confederacy.

John Ireland Elementary, John H. Reagan Elementary, and Sidney Lanier Expressive Arts Vanguard will all be renamed next fall.  Reagan Elementary will be renamed the Bishop Arts STEAM Academy, while Ireland Elementary will be known as Sylvia Mendez Elementary, named after the civil rights activist. Lanier Expressive Arts Vanguard will be renamed after a former DISD student and sculpter, Jesús Moroles.

In 2018 Dallas ISD made a similar move in renaming schools honoring Confederate generals Stonewall Jackson and Robert E. Lee.
