Wanted Arkansas Man Accused of Serious Felonies Shot and Killed by Arlington Police

ARLINGTON  (WBAP/KLIF News) – Arlington Police are investigating a deadly officer-involved shooting Thursday in connection to a an Arkansas man wanted for serious felonies.

The department said it’s Fugitive Unit was asked to help locate a felony suspect wanted on several serious offenses including five counts of rape and six counts of sexual indecency with a child.

Arlington officers with the North Texas Fugitive Task Force found the suspect driving on E. Pioneer Parkway in the eastern part of the city.

After spotting the car, the officers, who are federally deputized as U.S. Marshals, called patrol units to make a traffic stop on the vehicle in a parking lot in the 1700 block of E. Pioneer Parkway.

According to the responding officers, the suspect pointed a gun at the officer on the driver’s side of the car.

One of the officers then fired his weapon at the suspect, striking him. The suspect, a Hispanic man in his mid-40’s, was pronounced dead at the scene.

“I am grateful that no officer or innocent community members were injured by the unfortunate decisions that this suspect made today by pointing a gun at one of our officers,” said Al Jones, Chief of Police.

The Tarrant County Medical Examiner’s Office will release the name of the suspect after next of kin has been notified.

Arlington police said the findings of the criminal investigation are forwarded to the Tarrant County District Attorney’s Office for presentation to a Tarrant County grand jury.
