ARLINGTON (WBAP/KLIF)- An Arlington family of the 80-year-old man who was killed in a hit and run while checking the mail is urging anyone with information to come forward.
Sylvia Smith, daughter of Roy Smith said they cannot go another day without justice for him.
“I just want to break down and cry because since January 20th, at 4:28 when my dad was struck, My heart was ripped out,” said Smith.
Oak Farms Dairy has increased the reward to $10,000 for any information that leads to the arrest and conviction of the suspect.
“We just want justice please someone come forward, please ,” said Smith’s eldest daughter Gail Smith-Crowe. “This shouldn’t have to be about money. This should have never come this far. That person should have stopped to render aid to my dad,” she said.
The suspect was driving an 1999 to 2002 Chevy Silverado extended cab with a two-toned pain job on the front.
Arlington Police said the incident took place in the 900 block of E. Timberview Lane at 4:28 p.m. on Saturday, January 30, 2021. Police say when officers arrived, Roy Smith was found on the street and was pronounced deceased at the scene. A witness driving near the location saw the man in the roadway and called police.
The Smith’s wife, who was home at the time, reported that her husband walked outside to check the mail and did not return. When she looked out the window about 10-15 minutes later, she noticed emergency responders on scene a few houses down from their residence. Detectives have not ruled out that the man was struck near his mailbox and possibly drug by a vehicle down the road.
