ALBANY, N.Y. (AP) – More than half of New York’s Democratic congressional members have joined a majority of its state lawmakers in calling on Governor Andrew Cuomo to resign.
The Democrat has faced mounting allegations of sexual harassment and an allegation of groping, as well as scrutiny over his administration’s reporting of COVID-19 deaths among nursing home residents.
Cuomo has denied he ever touched anyone inappropriately, and has said he’s sorry if he ever made anyone uncomfortable.
A majority of state lawmakers are calling on him to resign. And Democratic congressional members including U.S. Representatives Jerry Nadler and Alexandra Ocasio-Cortez joined those calls Friday. Nadler said Cuomo has lost the confidence of New Yorkers.
Governor Cuomo Friday insisted he won’t step down amid allegations of sexual harassment.
The third-term Democratic governor condemned the sprawling coalition of Democrats calling for his resignation as “reckless and dangerous.” He says he “did not do what has been alleged.”
He also has faced sweeping criticism for keeping secret how many nursing home residents died of COVID-19 for months.
