Tarrant County Judge Rescinds Mask Mandate Effective Immediately

TARRANT COUNTY (WBAP/KLIF)- Following Governor Greg Abbott’s announcement to lift the state-wide mask mandate starting March 10th, Tarrant County Judge Glen Whitley lifted the county’s mask mandate effective immediately.

Whitley says businesses don’t have to wait until next week to make changes.

“My preference was to do it after Spring Break but if the Governor is doing it I’m going to rescind the mask mandate for businesses effective immediately,” said Whitley.

Whitley said he wanted to avoid any confusion.

“They are going to hear Wednesday and it won’t be until next Wednesday and it’s going to put businesses in an awkward position to argue,” he said.

During Tarrant County Commissioners Court, public health officials did reveal Covid-19 spread has gone down significantly but did warn people to stay home instead of attend spring break events.

“If people choose to wear the mask, they can do that…I am concerned about Spring Break coming up but we will see how all that rolls itself out. Let’s just get back after it and see what happens,” said Whitley.

Whitley said wearing a mask is a personal decision and hopes people will use good judgement.

“There will be times when I am going to continue to wear a mask and times when I won’t. I think everyone is going to use their judgement and if we get a spike we can wear masks again,” he said.
