(WBAP/KLIF) — The successor to the late Ron Wright will be chosen on May 1st. Republican representative Ron Wright had just been sworn in after re-election when he died February 7th of COVID-19 and lung cancer.
Now, Governor Greg Abbott is ordering a May 1st special election to select his successor. Candidates wishing to file for the 6th Congressional District seat have until March 3rd to submit their candidacy. Early voting is set to begin on April 19th.
Susan Wright, the widow of the late-congressman, has launched her campaign for the seat left vacant by her husband.
