DALLAS (WBAP/KLIF) – Federal help is on its way to Texas as the state grapples with impacts of a winter storm.
With snow, ice, frigid temperatures, and forced power outages blanketing much of the state, White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki said on Wednesday that generators have been supplied to Texas and diesel is being brought in to help boost back up power.
“FEMA is also sending water and blankets to Texas, as requested by the state,” Psaki said.
The Electric Reliability Council of Texas began forced power outages Monday morning after the winter weather wreaked havoc on some of the state’s energy supply. ERCOT officials said there was a winter storm plan in place, but unprecedented cold temperatures triggered a disruption in the balance of supply and demand. It’s unclear how long the controlled outages will last.
The Biden administration approved a disaster declaration related to the winter storm earlier this week.
