DALLAS (WBAP/KLIF) – North Texans were hunkered down Monday as a winter storm impacted travel across the region, and bitter cold temperatures prompted rolling power outages.
Many local residents spent late Sunday stocking up on the essentials at local grocery stores.
“My wife is inside the store getting what we need to hunker down for a few days,” said a Garland man. “I’ve lived in Texas my whole life and I’m just not use to this cold.”
Low temperatures were in the single digits Monday and high temps were forecast in the mid-teens.
“I have on three pairs of sweat pants, a pair of jeans, two jackets, and a long sleeve shirt,” A Richardson man said.
Traffic on the roadways Monday morning was minimal as many people chose to stay home. Some schools opted to close school, but many of them already had the day off to observe President’s Day.
Most of North Texas received between 3 and 6 inches of snow. While children and adults will pull out the sleds and build snowmen over the next few days, authorities advise extreme caution when being outside due to the frigid temperatures.
