IRVING (WBAP/KLIF) – The Irving Police Department said on Thursday that the man who killed himself outside Congresswoman Beth Van Duyne’s home this week was a friend of the Congresswoman.
Police confirm that 55-year-old Chris Dillard shot and killed himself outside Congresswoman Van Duyne’s home on Wednesday afternoon. No one else was hurt. Van Duyne was home and heard the gunshot before calling authorities for help.
Andrea Coker is a spokesperson for Van Duyne and commented on her behalf Thursday afternoon.
“I am still shocked and grieving that Chris would take his life,” Coker said, speaking for Congresswoman Van Duyne. “We had known each other for years. He had been to my home numerous time for holiday parties, fantasy football draft parties, and get togethers with friends.
According to his Linked In profile, Dillard served as Van Duyne’s campaign Communications Director until April of last year. Police said that it’s not clear what led Dillard to take his own life.
