DALLAS (WBAP/KLIF) – Texas Governor Greg Abbott said Thursday he is hopeful that more COVID-19 restrictions could be lifted soon.
Following a roundtable discussion with small business owners in Dallas, the Governor noted that Texas recorded its lowest COVID hospitalization rate in two months this week, and its smallest positivity rate since November.
“All of the numbers are moving in the right direction,” Abbott insisted.
He assured Texans the urgency to reopen the state is still there.
“There are businesses that need to get back to work,” he said. “There are employees that have bills to pay.”
The Governor wants to allow more time to let the numbers settle, but with vaccinations ramping up he hopes to lift restrictions sooner than later.
“What that will lead will be announcement that hopefully will be coming soon that we will be opening Texas even more,” Governor Abbott emphasized.
Restaurants in parts of Texas, including DFW, are currently still limited to 50% capacity.
