ATLANTA (WBAP/KLIF News) – Delta Airlines has extended its middle seat blocking policy in an effort to boost consumer confidence ahead of the spring travel season.
The Atlanta-based carrier said the process, which limits capacity on all departing flights, will be in place through April 30, 2021.
Delta said it will block the selection of middle seats in Delta Premium Select, Delta Comfort and Main Cabin for parties of 1 or 2. Parties of three or more can select seats together.
On aircraft without many middle seats, the carrier said it will block the selection of one aisle of seats on smaller planes. For First Class patients, Delta will block adjacent seats.
“We want our customers to have complete confidence when traveling with Delta, and they continue to tell us that more space provides more peace of mind,” said Bill Lentsch, Chief Customer Experience Officer. “We’ll continue to reassess seat blocking in relation to case transmission and vaccination rates, while bringing back products and services in ways that instill trust in the health and safety of everyone on board-that will always be Delta’s priority.”

According to AAA, 2.94 million Americans traveled by air in 2020, that’s down from 7.33 million in 2019. The pandemic dealt a crushing blow to the airline industry, with many major carriers reporting steep financial losses.
Industry analysts hope that as more Americans get vaccinated for COVID-19, travel will pick up steadily each passing year.
