FORT WORTH (WBAP/KLIF)- A 9-year-old boy from Vernon is the second child to die from complications from COVID-19 at Cook Children’s Medical Center in the past 24 hours.
Earlier this week Cook Children’s confirmed a child under 1 had also died from Covid-19.
According to a GoFundMe page put together for funeral expenses, J.J. Boatman was running around playing one day and by that night he was having difficulty breathing. Boatman, who suffers from asthma, was flown to Fort Worth by helicopter and was placed on a ventilator.
“Doctor’s said his lungs were filled with liquid and his brain had swollen from lack of oxygen. He was very strong and hung on for more than 12 hours, but at the end Covid-19 claimed another young victim,” said the statement on the page.
Cook Children’s Officials said they currently have 14 COVID-19 patients in the hospital.
