WASHINGTON (AP) – Republicans blocked a House resolution calling on Vice President Mike Pence to invoke the 25th Amendment to remove President Donald Trump from office Monday morning.
As the House prepares for impeachment, President Donald Trump faces a single charge – “incitement of insurrection” – over the deadly riot at the U.S. Capitol last week.
Five people, including a U.S. Capitol police officer, died in the chaos.
Speaker Nancy Pelosi said the House will proceed with legislation to impeach Trump amid the push for Pence to invoke constitutional authority to force Trump out.
The House will hold a full floor vote Tuesday.
If the Democrats are successful, it would be the second time the party impeached President Trump during his time in office.
