ARLINGTON (WBAP/KLIF) – North Texas counties and health providers are trying to keep up with demand for the COVID-19 vaccine.
Collin, Dallas, and Tarrant Counties have all set up online portals to register to be vaccinated if you’re older than 65 or have an underlying health risk. Thousands of residents have signed up. In Tarrant County, those who met the state’s requirements under category 1B signed up and days later were given wait times at Arlington’s E-Sports arena.
“I did it for peace of mind,” said a Tarrant County woman.
“It’s about safety for me and my family,” according to another Tarrant County resident waiting in line.
But it may not be as simple as it seems, depending on where and when you’re trying to be vaccinated.
Dallas County is still vaccinating healthcare workers.
“As we are opening up we are wanting to get vaccine to 1B as we can,” insisted Huang. “But we have a very limited amount. We are still very limited.”
As of Tuesday morning, Collin County had yet to receive any new shipments of vaccine from DSHS. County officials said they receive short notice on vaccine shipments and plan to post vaccine availability online. By Monday, all available vaccine doses in Collin County had been administered or scheduled for people in Phase 1A and 1B categories.
Due to the limited volume of vaccines available to Collin County, individuals are encouraged to contact their primary health care provider and their local pharmacy to inquire about additional vaccine availability.
The Texas Department of State Health Services has instructed the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention to ship first doses of COVID-19 vaccine to more than 949 providers in 158 Texas counties over the next week. The CDC will deliver 167,300 doses of the vaccine manufactured by Moderna and 37,050 doses of the Pfizer vaccine directly to Texas providers.
The CDC will also deliver 224,250 second doses to the providers who received vaccine the week of December 14 to complete the series for the people that were vaccinated in the first week of vaccine distribution.
