Eligible North Texans Brave Long Lines, Wait Times to be Vaccinated

FORT WORTH (WBAP/KLIF) – North Texans are braving long lines to receive the COVID-19 vaccine.

Outside Tarrant County Resource Connection in Fort Worth on Monday a socially distanced line wrapped around the complex with eligible populations waiting hours with their lawns chairs and masks to get vaccinated. But first, they had to register online.

“They send you a message the night before to get an appointment, but it’s not really an appointment it’s a spot in line,” said a man awaiting his vaccination.

In Texas, people older than 65 and vulnerable populations can get the shot if it’s available. Health officials recommend checking availability with the county or your provider.

“I had to get vaccinated for my own well being and for the health of my family,” said a Tarrant County woman waiting in line.

Availability of the vaccine is expected to increase in days and weeks to come.

The Arlington Fire Department received 4,500 additional doses of the Moderna COVID-19 vaccine on Monday and will begin vaccinating eligible residents and workers once again at Esports
Stadium Arlington & Expo Center starting Tuesday.

Residents receiving the vaccine at the Esports Stadium Arlington & Expo Center will be required to register through the Tarrant County Public Health vaccination link. TCHP will assign a specific number of people to the Arlington’s vaccination site located at 1200 Ballpark Way. Those receiving TCPH vaccine notification will be validated when they arrive at the Arlington site. Those without TCPH confirmation will be turned away.

To meet the rising demand for the vaccine here locally, Tarrant County Public Health (TCPH) has a newly created online portal http://www.tarrantcounty.com/COVIDshot that eligible residents can use to easily register for a no-cost vaccine.

Dallas County Health and Human Services also established a website to register to be vaccinated. Click here to register.
