McKinney City Councilman Steps Down on Technicality

MCKINNEY (WBAP/KLIF) – The man appointed to replace La’Shadion Shemwell on the McKinney City Council has stepped down on a technicality.

Chris Thornton told the council on Monday night that he believed he lived in the city’s historic District-1, but it was determined his home is 10-feet outside the district line, making him ineligible to serve that district.

The council could fill the seat again later this month.

Shemwell was voted out of office during a recall election last month after being labeled a distraction by city leaders.
