The Cowboys Aren’t Even Good Enough To Be the Worst

The last time the Cowboys were in a Super Bowl Ezekiel Elliott was in diapers.

DALLAS (WBAP/KLIF News) — Dallas Cowboys fans had high hopes that this year’s team of talented players and new coaching blood would propel the Boys deep into the playoffs and perhaps their first Superbowl appearance since Ezekiel Elliott was still sleeping in a crib.

That’s not going to happen.

To say this season has been a disappointment would be as big an understatement as saying Jerry Jones is financially well off regardless of his team’s miseries.

How bad are they? The Cowboys are in danger of setting a new NFL record for defensive ineptitude. Over the first thirteen games of the season they’ve given up more points than any other team in the league, 393 and counting. Only three teams in NFL history have relinquished more than 500 points in a 16 game season. The Cowboys are on a blistering pace to allow 524. That would rank them second only to the 1981 Baltimore Colts who gave up 533 points and soon after tucked tail, snuck out of town in the middle of the night and moved to Indianapolis.

According to CBS Sports: To break the all-time record held by the Colts, the Cowboys would have to surrender an average of 35.25 points over their final four games. The good news for the Cowboys is that there’s a chance they may be able to avoid making history and that’s because they have the “easiest” remaining schedule of any team in the NFL.

Is that good news? Is there anything worse than mediocrity? This year the Dallas Cowboys aren’t good enough to make the playoffs and probably not bad enough to win the distinction of being the worst defensive team in history.
