Washington AP (WBAP/KLIF) – Dramatic changes coming to Fort Hood amid violence at the base
In the wake of a series of troop deaths and other incidents reported at Fort Hood, U.S. Army officials are are expected to fire or suspend a “significant number” of officers and enlisted soldiers there.
It’s seen as a dramatic purge intended to correct a command culture they believe failed to address systemic leadership failures and a pattern of violence that included murders, sexual assaults and suicides.
A review of the base came on the heels of the murder of soldier Vanessa Guillen last year. She had reportedly complained of sexual harassment before her disappearance and death.
Army Secretary Ryan McCarthy and other top military brass will discuss the independent review of Fort Hood during a press conference later this morning [at 11am central] from the Pentagon.
Following the Pentagon briefing, Fort Hood Commanding General, LT. Gen. Pat White will hold a briefing on the base at 12:15 p.m.
