GRAND PRAIRIE (WBAP/KLIF News) – Grand Prairie Mayor Pro Tem and Council Member Jim Swoffard lost his battle with COVID-19 this week.
According to a release from the City of Grand Prairie, the 84 year old died Tuesday with his two children by his side.
Swoffard passed just weeks after losing his wife Judy to COVID-19 after the couple contracted the virus in early October.
He represented District 2 since 1998 and was named the city’s Mayor Pro Tem five times.
Mayor Ron Jenson said Swoffard’s death leaves a large void within the community.
“This is a devastating loss for the city, both as a government and as a community,” he said in a news release.
“Jim was a force of nature, with a sharp analytical mind, a memory for details, objective decision-making skills, combined with a servant’s heart to help others,” said Mayor Jenson.
The Swoffards are survived by their two children, two grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
