FORT WORTH (WBAP/KLIF) – As the coronavirus pandemic continues its grip on the United States economy leaving many families struggling financially, Meals on Wheels of Tarrant County has seen an 81 percent increase in the public’s need for its services since the virus hit in March.
It’s left the non profit in need of help to be able to continue to provide nutritious, home-delivered meals to those that are homebound, elderly and disabled.
Meals on Wheels TC said they currently have over 30 open routes in need of regular, weekly volunteers and dozens of outer routes in need of substitute volunteers throughout the rest of the year.
Volunteers deliver one day a week, Monday-Friday between the hours of 10:30 a.m. and 1:00 p.m.
Each volunteer will deliver 10-12 meals in their area and the entire route takes about one hour.
Those meals are picked up at one of 44 distribution sites across Tarrant County making it easy and convenient to the area in which you volunteer.
All new volunteers must complete a background check and virtual volunteer training.
Anyone who is considering volunteering must be able to commit through at least the end of the year.
However, there will be no meal deliveries on Thanksgiving Day, the Friday after, Christmas Eve, Christmas Day and New Year’s Day.
