WASHINGTON (WBAP/KLIF) – Senator John Cornyn is outlining what he wants in any new COVID-19 relief legislation out of Congress.
The republican from Texas says action is needed even with a vaccine coming soon.
“It’s clear that while we are on the cusp of delivering a vaccine, several vaccines hopefully starting by the end of the year, that the economic impact has still been very dramatic,” Cornyn said during a conference call with reporters.
Cornyn expressed his desire to help small businesses and the unemployed as well as assisting the music and entertainment industry and struggling airlines.
“Whether they range from Broadway shows to symphony orchestras to live music in Austin, Texas, those have been hit dramatically hard along with other hospitality industry and they simply need our help,” Cornyn said.
Democrats and republicans as well as the Trump administration have gone back and forth on talks for months following the first several rounds of COVID-19 relief.
While it may not be expected by some that a lame-duck Congress will produce additional relief, Senator Cornyn says it is a part of his priorities moving forward.
Senator Cornyn was re-elected to another six-year term this month.
