FORT WORTH (WBAP/KLIF)- The Tarrant County Elections Office sent out an important message after receiving mail-in ballots with the barcode scratched out or written over.
Elections Administrator Heider Garcia says there’s rumors circulating about how the barcode is used to find personal information about the voter and that is not true.
Garcia said luckily, those particular ballots with covered barcodes, were not damaged to the point where they couldn’t process them. However he’s concerned this could get out of hand and those ballots will not be counted and there will be no way of letting the voter know to re-do it.
He’s urging everyone to leave the barcode alone and send the ballots in the provided yellow envelope.
Returning a mail ballot? DO NOT tamper with the barcode on the carrier envelope. Please watch the video below. pic.twitter.com/pmfOYCcc4Q
