North Texas Leaders Urge Safety at the Polls Amid Rising COVID-19 Trends

DALLAS (WBAP/KLIF) – North Texas leaders are reiterating safety measures at the polls with a recent rise COVID-19 numbers.

According to Dallas County Health and Human Services, the county has seen a 44% increase in hospitalizations since late September. County Judge Clay Jenkins urged residents on Friday to wear masks to the polls in order to protect others voters.

“It’s a human decency thing,” Jenkins said.

Dallas County Medical Director Phil Huang praised poll workers and the public for following guidelines so far.

“They were cleaning all the surfaces,” he said. “There’s hand sanitizer there.”

Dallas County’s number of COVID-19 positive cases continued to rise Saturday with 647 additional cases and three deaths.

“Our positivity rate for the tests that are being performed has jumped from below 10% to 12.6%,” said Jenkins. “Note that the latest CDC week that we have ended seven days ago and that our daily numbers this week have mostly been higher than 453, as they are today.”

County officials still encourage high voter turnout, but with safety top of mind and a potential second wave in the back back of it.
